Report: Eagles Free Up Cap Space by Reworking Malcolm Jenkins' Contract

The Eagles have reportedly freed up a significant chunk of cap space for the 2018 season.

And they did it by reworking safety Malcolm Jenkins' contract.

Creating over $6 million in space is pretty significant, but the Eagles were pretty close to the limit before that. Now, according to the most recent NFLPA numbers, the Eagles have over $8.6 million cap space.

Presumably, the Eagles just converted some of Jenkins' $8.6 million base salary in 2018 into a bonus to create space. That bonus then gets spread out over the final three years of his contract.

Jenkins, who was supposed to have a cap hit of $10.1 million in 2018, is signed through the 2020 season.

Eagles fulfill a need drafting cornerback Quinyon Mitchell

The Quinyon Mitchell vs. James Bradberry competition is officially over

Even though Jenkins turned 30 during last season, he's still one of the Eagles' most important players. Not only is he a really good safety, he offers Jim Schwartz incredible versatility and durability.
