Eagles Name 5 Captains for 2018 Season

The Eagles have voted on team captains for the second straight year and there are some new faces in the mix this time around.

As the team did last year, it again picked two offensive captains, two defensive captains and one special teamer.

Here are the 2018 captains:

- Carson Wentz

- Jason Kelce

- Malcolm Jenkins

- Fletcher Cox

This is the second straight year being named a captain for Wentz and Jenkins, but this is the first year for Kelce, Cox and Grugier-Hill. The other three captains last year were Jason Peters, Brandon Graham and Chris Maragos.

You'll notice in this photo that there are little stars under the patch Wentz and the other captains wore last season. Wentz had one gold star last year and will have two this season.

That's represented here in this tweet from the Eagles:

Wentz and Jenkins were probably easy decisions for the rest of their teammates. They are really the unquestioned leaders on both sides of the ball.

As Jason Peters spent the end of his 2017 season out with a torn ACL, Kelce was a rock for the offense. As one of the longest-tenured players on the team, making him a captain is a good call.

Cox isn't necessarily the most vocal guy in the locker room, but he's obviously respected by his teammates. And he also happens to be the best player on the defense. His quest this year is to win Defensive Player of the Year. He's also talked in recent years about becoming more of a leader.

Since Maragos is starting the season on the Non-football Injury list, the Eagles needed a new special teams captain. KGH is a good one. He's a do-it-all man on teams, even showing off his leg in a pinch last season. We'll see if his special teams snaps drop this year, though, with his likely playing a bigger role on defense.
