10 Stats That Sum Up the Eagles-Cowboys Rivalry

It's Cowboys week, so let's do something a little different and document this rivalry that began in 1960 By the Numbers.

So here is the inaugural edition of 10 Random Eagles-Cowboys Stats You Won't Believe!

And I don't believe them either!

1. Only two players in history have recorded a rushing touchdown, passing touchdown and receiving touchdown in their career against the Cowboys, and both were Eagles. Keith Byars had four rushing TDs (one as a Dolphin), two receiving TDs and in 1990 threw a TD pass to Calvin Williams in a win at the Vet. Brian Westbrook had seven rushing TDs, two receiving and in 2002 threw a TD pass to Todd Pinkston in a win at the Vet.

2. When Chris Clemons had a 73-yard fumble return TD and Joselio Hanson a 96-yarder in the Eagles' 44-6 win over the Cowboys at the Linc on the final day of the 2008 season, the Eagles became the only team in NFL history with two fumble return TDs of 70 or more yards in the same quarter. In all, four of the six longest fumble return TDs ever against the Cowboys were by the Eagles - Hanson is tied for first with Joe Lavender (96 in 1974 at the Vet), Sheldon Brown is fourth (80 in 2005 at Texas Stadium) and Clemons is sixth.

3. Andy Reid has defeated the Cowboys more than any other coach in history. Reid went 17-11 vs. the Cowboys with the Eagles, and he's 1-1 against Dallas with the Chiefs for 18 total wins over Dallas.

4. And no player was a part of more victories over the Cowboys than Brian Dawkins. He played in 16 Eagles wins over Dallas from 1996 through 2008 and one with the Broncos in 2009 for a total of 17. David Akers is second on that list with 16 wins, Jon Runyan is fourth with 15 and Jeff Feagles and Brian Mitchell are tied for fifth with 14.

5. Six players share the record with two career pick-sixes against the Cowboys, and three of them are Eagles. Joe Scarpati brought one back 24 yards off Don Meredith in 1964 and had a 34-yarder off Bill Nelson in 1969, both at Franklin Field. Jeremiah Trotter had a 27-yard pick-six off Troy Aikman in 2000 and a 50-yarder off Ryan Leaf in 2001, both at Texas Stadium. And, of course, Lito Sheppard had the 101-yarder off Vinny Testaverde in 2004 at Texas Stadium and a 102-yarder off Drew Bledsoe in 2006 at the Linc.

6. Wes Hopkins shares the record of nine career interceptions against the Cowboys with Terry Kinard of the Giants. Hopkins' victims were Gary Hogeboom, Steve Pelluer and Troy Aikman twice, Danny White once and also running backs James Jones and Tony Dorsett once each on trick plays. Shepard has the most career INT return yards against the Cowboys with 241.

7. The three worst postseason losses in Eagles history have all come against the Cowboys - 24 points in 1992 (34-10), 20 points in 2009 (34-14) and 19 points in 1995 (30-11).

8. Only six players have rushed for more than 400 yards against the Cowboys and averaged 5.0 yards per carry. Two are Jim Brown and Walter Payton, the two greatest running backs in history. The other four: LeSean McCoy (918 yards, 5.3 average), Randall Cunningham (458 yards, 7.4 average), Correll Buckhalter (420 yards, 5.7 average) and Donovan McNabb (412 yards, 5.8 average).

9. Carson Wentz has the most career pass attempts against the Cowboys (113) without an interception. Next on that list are Joe Flacco (86), Rich Gannon (72), Steve Walsh (66) and Bernie Kosar (58).

10. The Cowboys have lost 13 games by 27 or more points since 2000, and more than half of them - seven of the 13 - have been against the Eagles. The Eagles have beaten the Cowboys by 27, 27, 28, 28, 31, 33 and 38 points since 2000. No other team has more than one win by 27 or more points against the Cowboys during the same period.
