Runge, from Cochranville, Chester County Pennsylvania, swam in Wednesday afternoon’s heat to qualify America in first place in the final with a top time of 7:47.77. It wasn’t clear midday Wednesday if she would join Pittsburgh's Leah Smith in Wednesday night’s final.
