Man U Brings Game Back to Philly

Manchester United to take on the Philadelphia Union at the Linc in July

One of the most popular soccer clubs in the world is going to kicking its way into Philly this summer.

Manchester United, a perennial English Premiership favorite, is going to play the Philadelphia Union at Lincoln Financial Field.

Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and the rest of Man U will take the pitch for a friendly on July 21.

“We’re very excited to be a part of such an international event at a world class facility like Lincoln Financial Field,” said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz.  “Manchester United is one of the most successful clubs in the world and to be able to compete against it as the home team on the heels of the World Cup is a truly special experience.”

And it’s not like this friendly isn’t coming without the blessing of the Birds.

“We are extremely pleased to once again welcome Manchester United to Philadelphia and to Lincoln Financial Field.” Said Eagles President Joe Banner. “We’ve had an overwhelming response from the region with Manchester United, with a sell out in 2003 and a near capacity sell out in 2004. We are excited about the opportunity to provide the highest quality accommodations and hospitality to soccer enthusiasts from the region and beyond.”

The Philly stop is part of a four-city North American tour for the 18-time Premier League champs, which will include playing the MLS All-Stars on July 28 in Houston.

Tickets to the Linc game go on sale on May 10 at 10 a.m. on the Eagles website and Ticketmaster.com.
