It's Been How Long Since the Phillies Won an Opener?

Doesn't it seem that the Phillies always lose their season opener?

Well, that isn't true.

They certainly must have won an opener at some point in the 126 years they've existed.

But, when was the last time it happened?

It sure didn't happen on Sunday night when the Phillies sleepwalked through a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Braves.

Well, you don't need to go too far back to find the last time the Phillies won an opener. The Phillies won the 2005 season opener over the Washington Nationals behind former "ace" Jon Lieber.

The Phillies futility in openers is evident, though, in their 3-7 record for the decade.

Which player has the most NBA MVP awards?

Nuggets' Nikola Jokic wins 3rd NBA MVP Award

That isn't pretty -- of course they also have more playoff appearances (two) in this decade than any other decade besides the 1970's. (And the same as the 1980's)

Don't fret -- it's just one game. The Phillies still have 161 games to defend that World Championship they won.
