Boosh's Knee Goes the Wrong Way

Flyers goalie to miss a month after spraining MCL

The Flyers have battled through injuries throughout the postseason as Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne and Ian Laperriere have all missed time.

But, the team might have taken its biggest blow yet when starting goalie Brian Boucher was lost in the second period of Game 5.

Boucher, who looked rejuvenated while leading the Flyers through a first-round drubbing of New Jersey and into a semi-final showdown with Boston, was hurt about 4:30 into the second period of Game 5 against the Bruins.

He was making a stop when his own defenseman Ryan Parent and Bruins winger Miroslav Satan fell onto his bent left knee.

An MRI Tuesday revealed Boosh strained his MCL. He could miss up to a month, according to the AP.

Boosh was in obvious pain as you could see in this NHL video:

Backup-turned starter-turned backup Michael Leighton will continue to tend goal for the foreseeable future and likely the rest of the Flyers' playoff run.

How long the Flyers last will rest on Leighton who will get his first career playoff start Wednesday night when the series returns to Philly for Game 6. The chance couldn’t come with more pressure considering the Fly Guys are still on the brink of elimination.

And, hopefully fans around the Delaware Valley will be taking Vai Sikahema's advice by wearing moustaches and the team's advice by wearing orange and black to support the Flyers.
