Carli Lloyd Goes for Gold Again

2008 Gold medalist will try for another victory in London

"This happens once every four years and I'm ready to go for it," said Carli Lloyd, as NBC10 met up with her during a training session.

The two-time Olympian scored the winning goal in the 2008 Gold Medal Game in Beijing. On her website, she calls the 18-yard line shot in OT against Brazil, her favorite goal of her career.

"I remember the play happening, I just got this burst of energy and I couldn't have struck it any better and I was a bit in shock when it happened," Lloyd said.

But if you were impressed by that shot, look out for Lloyd during the London Games, because she says she's a much better player now.

"I look back and I kind of laugh because here I am four years later and I'm like I wasn't even that good back then. I'm way more of a smarter, efficient soccer player now," Lloyd said.

The center mid-fielder says she is now one of the Top 3 fittest players on the U.S. Women's soccer team. "I'm tough, I don't take crap from anybody. I'm going to be a little feisty out there on the field."

The soccer star grew up in Delran, N.J. and played for the Medford Strikers Youth Club.

"I've really dedicated my life to soccer, you know soccer is No. 1 and that's been the focus the last 10 years I've been training to get on this team," Lloyd said.

Lloyd graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies.

The U.S. Women's Soccer Team's quest for gold starts Wednesday when they take on France at noon EST in group play.
