Corbett on kayaking trip to boost state tourism, recreation

Gov. Tom Corbett is taking a three-day kayaking trip on the Susquehanna River to promote tourism and Pennsylvania's natural resources.

Corbett and his entourage of officials from several state agencies -- each in individual kayaks -- set out Wednesday morning from Tunkhannock in Wyoming County. They plan to be in the water until noon, and the Republican governor plans an afternoon meeting with local tourism officials.

On Thursday, the group plans to paddle into Luzerne County, where they will visit Frances Slocum State Park and a local business. They trip is scheduled to end Friday in Wilkes-Barre.

Spokeswoman Kelli Roberts says Corbett is using the kayak his wife gave him as a birthday present.

Roberts says he's been waiting a long time to try it out.
