Snowden Applies for Political Asylum in Russia

Self-professed NSA leaker Edward Snowden has applied for political asylum in Russia, one of over 20 countries that the anti-secrecy group Wikileaks said it had approached for asylum on Snowden’s behalf. Russian president Vladimir Putin says Snowden can stay under the condition that he stops “damanging our American partners.” Hours later Snowden released a statement Monday night slamming the U.S. government’s efforts to get him extradited, NBC News reported. Other countries that Wikileaks approached for asylum include China, Cuba, France, Germany, Italy, India, Nicaragua, Norway and Spain, NBC News reported.
