Craig Ferguson will step down as host of "The Late Late Show" at the end of the year, he announced Monday.
He announced his plans to leave the show come December 2014 to his studio audience during his show's taping, CBS said in a statement.
"CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are 'consciously uncoupling,' but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much," Ferguson joked.

His announcement comes after CBS tapped Stephen Colbert to take over "The Late Show" once David Letterman retires. Letterman had said a week earlier that he plans to step down sometime next year.
CBS hasn't said who will replace Ferguson.
