The spoils of Coachella are upon us, the week in the city between the weekends in the desert overstuffed with choice live show picks.

Here’s a sampling of the offerings, this particular batch led by bands with an uncanny knack for reproducing vintage sounds, while somehow trying to eke out their own voices:

Rebranded post-punk operators Preoccupations w/ verbose indie slack wunderkind Car Seat Headrest (Monday 4/17, Regent Theater)

Husband-wife Abba-inspired pop team Tennis w/ our own locals, er, Local Natives, continuing to shed any old Talking Heads-esque pigeonholing (Tuesday 4/18, Fox Theater Pomona)

The long-awaited L.A. debut of Australian groovy sample-based maestros The Avalanches (Wednesday 4/19, Fonda Theater)

And a pair instrumentalists doing new things at completely different speeds:

4AD heartbreaking soundscapes by Bing & Ruth (Monday 4/17 at the Sanctuary at Pico-Union)

Crisp breaks, funky keys and hypnotic arpeggios by Floating Points (Friday 4/21 at El Rey Theater).
