Most of Dismembered Newborn Girl's Remains Still Missing: Investigators

A little girl found part of the child, who was only a few days old, in the backyard of her home on the 1500 block of West 104th Street

Most of the remains of a dismembered baby girl found dead in a South Los Angeles yard at the weekend are still missing, detectives said.

A little girl found part of the child, who was only a few days old, in the backyard of her home in Westmont Saturday.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators had asked neighbors on the 1500 block of West 104th Street to check their trash cans for any further evidence as they try to find the mother, but there have been no breakthroughs.

Neighbor Wallace Dixson, who watched as deputies removed the remains of the infant from his neighbor's yard, said he is finding it difficult to comes to terms with what happened

"I can't have words for it. It's just something you can't even really talk about," Dixon said, "I'm trying to… forget about it and go on, but it's almost senseless to do that."

The little girl had found a baby's leg in the backyard, while the infant's head was later discovered in a side yard.

Local resident Gail Manuel is afraid a baby murderer may be loose in the neighborhood.

"It's really sad because there's someone around here that's a killer," Manuel said.

Investigators handed out hundreds of flyers Tuesday night as they continue the search for the mother of a baby girl.

They went door-to-door, in an attempt to generate new leads in the case.

Detectives also want to talk with any women in the neighborhood who were pregnant recently.
