Pennsylvania Man Jailed for Sob Story Theft

A Pennsylvania man who allegedly conned someone out of $100 by claiming his mother was in a bad car accident has been ordered to stand trial and remain in jail.
Thirty-three-year-old Ryan Matthew Young, of Pleasantville, is charged with theft by deception for knocking on a door in Centerville in September and telling the resident his alleged sob story.
The resident agreed to give Young $50, but he claimed he needed $100 so the woman relented after Young left $200 worth of fishing gear at her home as collateral on the ``loan.'' Police say it turns out the gear belonged to a friend who had forgotten it in Young's vehicle after they went fishing in June.
Young was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing Thursday. His attorney hasn't commented.
