Smoky Fire at AC Casino Site

Fire was sparked by a welder removing remnants of crane

Atlantic City officials say a smoky fire at a casino construction site was sparked by a welder removing the remnants of a large crane that collapsed during last weekend's nor'easter.

No injuries were reported in the blaze at the Revel casino site, which began around 1:40 p.m. and was brought under control about an hour later, fire officials said.

Revel Entertainment CEO Kevin DeSanctis told The Press of Atlantic City that the welder was using a torch to dismantle the crane. The torch then ignited some insulation on the building's roof, creating lots of smoke but not much fire.

β€œThere was no real damage to anything,” DeSanctis said, adding that construction would not be interrupted.
