Questions Raised in Death of NJ Inmate

Authorities in New Jersey say natural causes are to blame for the death of a man in the Burlington County Jail last month.

The county prosecutor's office said in a report released Thursday that 50-year-old Jerome Iozzia died of pneumonia, empyema and sepsis on Feb. 25. Officials say he also had a heart condition.

He was the second man to die in the jail since December.

The Burlington County Times says the man's fiancee, Jasmine Rodriguez, told the county freeholder board on Wednesday that she has been told by someone who was in the jail that his calls for help were not answered, according to a jailhouse source.

County officials deny that.

Iozzia was being held on charges of aggravated assault, robbery and weapon possession.
