Teens Charged in Deliveryman's Shooting Death

Two Philadelphia teens are facing charges in the shooting death of a Chinese food deliveryman last week, police confirmed Monday afternoon.

Fourteen-year-old Sahmir Walker was charged with the murder and robbery of Rendon Zheng while a second teen, Tyquail Duffy, 15, was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other related offenses.

The charges were announced just hours after police confirmed the teens were in custody for questioning.

Zheng, of N. 10th Street. was making a delivery on the 500 block of Hill Creek Park Drive for New China Chinese around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when an assailant fired at least 12 shots, hitting the 49-year-old Zheng in the left shoulder, police said.

The victim tried to speed away, crossing Adams Avenue, near Bingham Street, but ended up crashing through a fence at the top of an embankment, authorities said.

When medics arrived at the crash scene, they found the driver unconscious in his car and rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he died minutes later.

Police confirmed Monday that the motive for the crime was robbery, although nothing was taken from the victim.

A 20,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Zheng's killer. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia Police.
