Philadelphia Police Join #GirlCopsAreAwesome Movement

The women of the Philadelphia Police Department took to Facebook to join the #GirlCopsAreAwesome movement.

The movement, and hashtag, started after a four-year-old girl from Washington State got a police officer uniform for Halloween.

The girl, Kinley, saw that the picture on the costume was of a boy, and got upset, thinking this meant she couldn’t be a police officer, according to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Facebook page.

Her mom posted a Facebook status about the experience, which prompted hundreds of female officers across the nation to send Kinley pictures of themselves with the hashtag #GirlCopsAreAwesome.

Officers also sent Kinley patches and memorabilia from their stations.

The Philadelphia Police Department posted a picture of their women officers and said if Kinley ever found herself on this side of the country, they’d be honored if she considered joining their team.
