Philadelphia Hotels Score Big After NCAA Tournament

There's another reason to love sports in Philadelphia: Two tournaments over the Easter weekend amounted to near-full occupancy numbers for the city's hotels. The NCAA tournament and the Asics Northeast Qualifier volleyball tournament brought more than 30,000 visitors to the city, resulting in about 23,000 hotel rooms nights consumed, according to the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, using data from STR.

Center City hotel occupancy was capped at 95 percent occupancy over the Easter weekend, and the visitors generated about $40 million in economic impact for the region, according to PHLCVB. The volleyball tournament came to Philadelphia in 2013, but before that, hotel occupancy floated around 65 percent from 2007 to 2012, according to the PHLCVB.
