Man Shot, Killed Inside Delaware Community Center

Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire inside a Delaware community center Monday afternoon, striking and killing an unidentified man.

The shooting occurred inside the basement of the Rose Hill Community Center on Lambson Lane in New Castle, Delaware. Police said a recording studio and gym area are both located in the basement.

The victim was struck and killed in the shooting. Family members of the victim were spotted outside the center after the shooting occurred, sobbing and crying out, "I can't believe he's gone." Police have not yet revealed the victim's age.

The gunman fled the scene after the shooting and police are currently searching in the surrounding area. They have not yet released a description of the suspect.

Officials say there were children inside the center at the time of the shooting. The center was placed on lockdown and parents were seen arriving outside. No other injuries were reported and children and teachers were sent home.

The Rose Hill Community Center is a nonprofit community agency. Several programs for local children take place there, including the New Castle Boys & Girls Club as well as the Head Start program, a free preschool program for 3 to 5 year-old children from low income families.
