No Papal Visit Boost for Surrounding States' Hotels

Pope Francis is coming to Philadelphia in less than one month, but surrounding states have yet to see an uptick in hotel demand.

Along with a stop in the City of Brotherly Love, Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Washington D.C. and New York, but hotels in those cities, and in other states along the I-95 corridor have yet to see a spillover effect.

"We haven't seen a significant bump yet in hotel bookings," said Delaware tourism director Linda Parkowski, who said there are about 14,000 hotel rooms in the state. "Maybe as we get closer to the event we might see that."
