Cooper University Health Care is adding Lourdes Health System and St. Francis Medical Center under a consolidation plan announced by the organizations Thursday afternoon.
If the transaction — which still requires regulatory approval — is completed, the combined entity would become the largest health system in South Jersey, and the fourth-largest health system in the state, with revenues of nearly $2 billion, more than 12,000 employees, and more than 875 employed physicians. The combined health system will serve the more than 2.1 million people of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer and Salem counties.
“This agreement will bring together health care providers from across south and central New Jersey, allowing us to dramatically expand access to the high quality of care for thousands of new patients,” said George E. Norcross III, Cooper’s board chairman, in a statement. “Since its founding 130 years ago, Cooper has always been committed to providing the best care possible for its community. With this announcement, the size of our community may expand, but the high-quality of care will remain the same. Come grow with us.”
