A man shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself inside a Berks County home, according to investigators.
Police told NBC10 the family members of a 58-year-old man went to his home on the 1900 block of Perkiomen Avenue in Mount Penn Monday afternoon to drop off his daughter. When no one answered the door the family members broke through the front window to get inside. Once inside the home they found the 58-year-old man’s body in the second floor hallway with a small shotgun a few feet away, police said. They also found the body of the man’s 35-year-old girlfriend inside a bathtub also on the second floor.
Police say both victims died from gunshot wounds to the torso. Investigators believe the man shot and killed his girlfriend before shooting and killing himself.
Family members told police they believe the woman planned on leaving her boyfriend due to problems in their relationship. Police have not yet released their identities.
