Police in South Jersey Nab Man Wanted for Assaulting Officer

A man accused of aggravated assault on a police officer has surrendered in South Jersey.

Police say James Gallaway struck a police officer while fleeing a traffic stop on Wrangleboro Road in Galloway Township in July.

Police on Sunday learned Gallaway was inside an apartment on Meadowridge Road. Nearby residents were evacuated and the Atlantic County SWAT team secured the area.

Gallaway voluntarily surrendered.

He's accused of aggravated assault on a police officer, assault by auto, eluding, obstruction, drug possession and numerous motor vehicle violations.

It's not known if he has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.
