A Florida man mouthed, "I'll be back" to his ex-wife moments after he was sentenced in northeastern Pennsylvania for hiring a hit man to kill her.
Sixty-five-year-old Edward McLaughlin of Cape Coral, Florida, was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in federal prison in the failed plot.
His ex-wife, Joanna Van Tine, tells The Times-Tribune of Scranton that she viewed her ex-husband's comment as a threat.
McLaughlin pleaded guilty in 2013 to conspiracy to commit murder for hire and two firearms charges.
He later tried withdrawing the plea, but a federal judge denied his request. McLaughlin continued to maintain his innocence Wednesday, demanding a trial and pounding his fist on the table. At one point he was removed from the courtroom.
The man he hired to kill her was sentenced last year to 35 years in prison.
