Man on Bike Caught in Crossfire, Killed: Prosecutors

The 59-year-old Atlantic City man was riding his bike when he was caught in the middle of a gunfight

Jose Ortiz, 59, was riding his bike in the Atlantic City neighborhood where he lives when he was shot, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities say he was an innocent bystander caught in the middle of a gunfight.

It happened around 3 p.m. Thursday at Stanley Holmes Village Apartments on the 1600 block of City Place Avenue.

Ortiz was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Investigators are searching for the people involved in the gun battle and are asking anyone with information to call the Prosecutor's Office at 609-909-7800 or Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234.

This is the 14th homicide victim in Atlantic City this year.
