Ex-Band Director Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting South Jersey Student

A former South Jersey high school band director who sexually assaulted a female student is now headed to prison.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that 27-year-old Jason Koenig, of Hammonton, received concurrent five-year sentences on Friday. He also will have to register as a sex offender.

Koenig had pleaded guilty last December to official misconduct and sexual assault charges. He had resigned as director of the Hammonton High School marching band in April 2014, just days before he was charged in the case.

A 2006 graduate of the school, Koenig also served as director of its jazz and marching bands. He had been employed there since 2009.

Prosecutors say the assaults occurred between November 2013 and January 2014. At the time, the victim was 16 years old.
