A lawyer for 53-year-old Christopher Wheeler argued in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas Friday that the $1.5 million cash bail was excessive and that Wheeler has no criminal record.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Judge Sheldon Rennie, noting that Wheeler is a pilot with his own plane, denied the motion to reduce bail.

Wheeler stepped down last month as headmaster of Tower Hill School in Wilmington after authorities searched his home and school office as part of a child abuse investigation.

He surrendered to troopers after authorities obtained a warrant charging him with 25 counts of dealing in child pornography.
