Ex-Homeless Man Gives Back to Homeless on Christmas

Samir Afif had a special reason for helping the homeless this Christmas Day — he used to be homeless himself.

The Reading Eagle reports that the Muhlenberg Township resident was handing out care packages Thursday at City Light Ministries in Reading, each containing a hat, a set of gloves, a scarf and $20 to buy some food. He also passed out lottery tickets.

Before heading over to Opportunity House, Afif said he ended up homeless about a decade ago but found help at a Norristown shelter and eventually turned his life around.

Now, with a job and a home for his family of four, he said he started collecting funds for the care packages a few months ago because "God gives and you've got to give back."
