Driving Foul: 250 Chickens Flood Pa Highway

Authorities say the chickens somehow spilled onto Interstate 84 Thursday morning.

Authorities say nearly 250 chickens somehow spilled onto Interstate 84 in northeastern Pennsylvania, causing a traffic headache.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation responded to the scene in South Abington Township on Thursday after getting calls from motorists about birds in the roadway. PennDOT officials say they are still trying to figure out where the birds came from.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton reports workers found 25 crates of live chickens on the roadway, with a few loose birds also strutting around.

Crews loaded the birds onto flatbed trucks and took them to an animal shelter. Officials say some had to be euthanized.
