The former treasurer of a volunteer fire company who stole $19,000 through falsified reimbursements has received 364-day county jail sentence.
State authorities say Michael Petrella must also serve five years probation as part of the sentence he received Friday. He is also barred from holding public employment in New Jersey and must pay $19,308 in restitution to the Seaville Fire and Rescue Company.
The 26-year-old Seaville resident had pleaded guilty last December to misapplication of entrusted property. He admitted using fire company funds to reimburse himself for beer, diapers and other personal items from 2010 to 2013.
'The theft was discovered during an investigation into fraudulent reimbursements paid to former Seaville Chief Eugene Spiegel, who was sentenced last week to five years in prison.
