Officer Shoots Man Armed With Meat Cleaver at Senior Home: Police

A police officer shot a resident at a New Jersey senior housing facility after he allegedly threatened a woman with a meat cleaver.

A police officer shot a man at a Camden County, New Jersey senior housing facility after he allegedly threatened a woman with a meat cleaver.

Chesilhurst Police responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at the B’nai B'rith Chesilhust House in Chesilhurst, New Jersey around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. Two women told the dispatcher that a man with a butcher knife was threatening them in the management office.

According to police, one woman was able to escape while the other was held hostage by the man, identified by investigators as Daniel McOsker, a resident at the facility in his 60s.

Police say they found McOsker holding a meat cleaver in his apartment on another floor when they arrived. They ordered McOsker to drop the weapon and shot him once in the leg when he allegedly failed to do so.

He currently is being treated at Cooper University Hospital for the gunshot wound. He is charged with making terroristic threats.

Chesilhurst Police have placed the officer involved in the shooting on administrative leave pending the investigation.
