1 Year Later: Man Arrested for Killing Elderly Man

More than a year after the killing of a 77-year-old man rocked a rural New Jersey community, a man is charged with murder.

Michael Castro, 32, of Dania, Fla., is held in the Broward County Jail on $1.1 million bail and is awaiting extradition to Atlantic County, N.J. to face murder charges in the Feb. 5 shooting death of John Kingsbury.

On that Sunday afternoon, relatives found Kingsbury inside their Woodland Avenue home suffering from two gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Neighbors say Kingsbury's grandchildren and son were among the family members who made the shocking discovery.

"They must've seen him lying in the foyer," said Kingsbury's neighbor Howard Abbott. "The kids went crying next door to the neighbor."

Kingsbury was later pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus, authorities said.

It's the first murder in Mullica Township since 1999.

"I think he had emphysema or something, he wasn't really well," said Abbott. "But I can't imagine somebody wanting to shoot him. It just doesn't make sense."

"This doesn't happen around here," said another resident. "That's what's weird about it."

People in the neighborhood say Kingsbury recently moved to the house from out of state to live with his son.

Authorities say that Castro went to the home with the intention of burglary.

It wasn't revealed how authorities zeroed in on Castro as a suspect.
