Dog-Walking Tire Slasher Strikes in Northeast Philadelphia

A man walking a dog through a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood overnight earlier this week slashed tires on more than a dozen cars, and police are hoping to identify the vandal through surveillance video.

Police were alerted to the vandalism at 9 a.m. Tuesday when residents from Hellerman Street near Rising Sun Avenue awoke to find their tires slashed. In all, police said, seven cars were vandalized on that block.

Investigators later discovered that the same slasher apparently hit cars on two other nearby blocks: six on Shelbourne Street near Levick and three more on Oakley Street near Levick.

Police released surveillance video on Thursday that shows the man stalking through the neighborhood with a dog and stopping to vandalize cars along the way.

Police said the slashings happened about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

They're asking that anyone with any information about the vandalism contact Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153.
