The Delaware River Port Authority is preparing to spend more than $60 million to refurbish the Walt Whitman Bridge.
The Courier-Post reports commissioners are expected to vote Wednesday on a $56.5 million contract to paint the span between Gloucester City and Philadelphia.
A $6.2 million improvement to the bridge's toll plaza, roadways and ramps is also part of the project.
If approved, the job would be performed by general contractor Corcon. The New York-based firm is already in the first phase of a similar job at the Commodore Barry Bridge, which connects Chester, Pennsylvania to Bridgeport.
DRPA CEO John Hanson says the project, estimated to take three years, will upgrade the bridge's appearance and protect its longevity.
Hanson says lane closures and other traffic impacts could be expected.
