Delaware Officials Warn of Possible Water Contamination

Public health officials in Delaware are warning some Sussex County residents about potential drinking water contamination.

Residents served by Broadkiln Beach and PrimeHook water companies may have their drinking water contaminated by unsafe levels of E. coli bacteria, according to the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.

Public health officials say people using those companies should either switch to bottled water or boil the water before using it. Boiled water should be used for brushing teeth, washing dishing, preparing ice cubes and cooking and washing food.

It is safe for bathing and washing clothes, officials said.

The state's online drinking water monitoring system shows Broadkiln has 478 connections in Sussex County and PrimeHook has 170 connections.
