A former Delaware worker will serve two years in prison for her role in a nearly $1 million food stamp fraud case.
Local news organizations report that the state Department of Justice says 62-year-old Joellen Edwards was sentenced after pleading guilty to theft over $100,000 and official misconduct charges.
Edwards was one of seven Delaware Department of Health and Social Services workers indicted in June after an investigation revealed they created over 100 fake accounts to get electronic benefit transfer cards that could be used to purchase food.
The cards were then delivered to state service centers in New Castle and Kent counties where the employees worked. Officials said the suspects then used the cards personally or sold them at discount
