DA Drops Homicide Charges Against Buried Bodies Co-Defendant

Prosecutors have made good on a deal to drop state homicide charges against a co-defendant who testified at the trial of a northeastern Pennsylvania man convicted of strangling two people and burying their bodies in his yard.

A judge Monday approved paperwork dropping the charges against Paul Weakley for his role in the 2002 deaths of pharmacist Michael Kerkowski and his girlfriend Tammy Fassett.

The 45-year-old Weakley previously pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges for the robbery and murders and is serving a life sentence. Prosecutors said Monday they'd speak on Weakley's behalf if he asks for a new sentence.

Weakley testified he plotted with Hugo Selenski to kill Kerkowski and helped him carry out the crimes and bury the bodies.

Jurors spared Selenski of the death penalty last week.
