Bulldog Blog: Technical Difficulties

A few weeks ago I told you about students at Lower Merion High School who were given laptops. Some teachers feared that the so-called โ€œtoolsโ€ would cause a distraction? Well, I guess the teachers know their kids.

Students at school found a way to download games onto their district-owned computers. At first it was kept a secret. But, once more and more teachers found out the more it was realized and eventually ended.

A number of teachers had problems with this because prior to even having the computers students were forced to sign an acceptable use form, which clearly states the rules while using the laptop. One school administrator even told me โ€œour students are so lucky, they donโ€™t realize that five miles down the road kids donโ€™t even have a laptop per classroom let alone personally.โ€

Since being caught, students can no longer download anything non-school related. And, those who did get games quickly had them deleted.

What else is going around at school?

Students were wiping sleepers out of their eyes after staying up late to watch the Phightins play Game 1 of the World Series. Students seemed very excited as the Phillies tried to repeat โ€“ just look at all the red in the hallways. After all it could mean a day off in case of a parade. Even some teachersโ€™ homework assignments were given with โ€œif winโ€ due dates!
