School Board Member Facing Drug Trial

Sherri Underland, her husband Samuel and 18-year-old son were arrested at home in March.

A family is facing trial on misdemeanor drug charges after marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found in their Bensalem home last March.

What’s more interesting is that one of the accused is a member of the Bensalem school board.

Sherri Underland, 42, was arrested – along with her 42-year-old husband Samuel and 18-year-old son Joe Dougherty – when the Bensalem Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at the Underland residence.

According to authorities, the warrant was granted because of an investigation involving Dougherty.

While searching the home, police say they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Dougherty’s bedroom. They also say they recovered a pill bottle containing marijuana in a dresser drawer in Sherri and Samuel’s bedroom.

All three were arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, according to Sgt. Andy Aninsman. is reporting that Underland’s attorney claims the amount of pot found was not even enough of a joint and that it didn’t belong to Sherri Underland.

“She believes she’ll be vindicated and the charges ultimately will be dismissed. It’s going to come out how the drugs ended up there and whose drugs they ultimately were,” attorney Keith Bidlingmair told the online publication.

Sherri Underland remains on the school board.
