Suspect Who Allegedly Stabbed Cop Killed by Atlantic City Police

The suspect was pronounced dead hours after an alleged violent altercation with officers.

A man shot by an Atlantic City police officer Friday night died sometime after the shooting, the county prosecutor said in a statement Saturday.

Timothy Deal, 32, was identified as the suspect who was shot after he allegedly stabbed an Atlantic City police officer in the torso Friday evening. The wounded officer was responding to a hit-and-run crash on the 600 block of N. Kentucky Avenue.

Deal, who was not involved in the crash, was then shot by the injured officer in order to end the attack, officials said.

It remains unknown why Deal, of Atlantic City, allegedly attacked the officer. The statement from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office called it "an unprovoked attack."

Both the officer and the man were taken to the trauma center at the AtlantiCare Medical Center — Center City, where Deal was later pronounced dead. Preliminary results of an autopsy by the Southern Regional Medical Examiners Office indicated that Deal died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The officer was treated for his wounds and has been released.
