Armed-Robbery Victim Chases Gunman, Gets Shot in Northeast Philly

A victim of an armed holdup was shot several times on a Philadelphia street after police say he chased an armed robber down the block.

The 30-year-old man had just left a party on Sanger Street near Frontenac, in Northeast Philadelphia’s Summerdale neighborhood, when police say the robber approached him and held a gun to his head. The gun apparently jammed when the robber tried to fire at the victim’s head, police said, so the robber took off running down the block without taking any of the victim’s belongings.

The victim, police said, decided to chase the robber – thinking his gun was still jammed – but the robber turned around and successfully fired several shots at the victim. The victim was wounded three times in the hip, and drove himself to Aria Health’s Frankford Hospital, police said.

The man was transferred to Aria Health’s Torresdale Hospital’s trauma unit and remained in critical condition early Sunday morning.

Police have not reported any arrests in the shooting.
