Gunman Fires 28 Times in Execution-Style Killing

A killer stood over his victim and fired more than two dozen shots, said Philadelphia Police.

Officers found the 27-year-old victim and 28 shell casings after gunfire erupted early Wednesday on Adams Avenue near Penn Street in the Frankford section of the city, said police.

The victim appeared to be shot at close range -- shot in the face, torso and legs, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

"It appears this was an execution-type homicide," said Small. "It appears that the shooter was standing over the body or very close to the body and fired multiple shots."

Witnesses saw a person running south through a vacant lot, said Small.

No word yet on a motive for the shooting but Small said it didn't appear to be a robbery.
