A suburban Philadelphia mayor has defeated an incumbent in a state House race that was decided after challenges to provisional ballots and a recount.
Democrat Carolyn Comitta, the mayor of West Chester, will be the new representative of the 156th House district after defeating three-term Republican Rep. Dan Truitt by 25 votes.
Truitt had been ahead by 80 votes on election night, but military and absentee ballots put Comitta in the lead. County officials finished their recount Friday and a judge certified the results.
Comitta, who was running in her first state-level race, is in her second term as mayor and before that served on the West Chester borough council for four years.
