Water Main Break in Frankford

The Philadelphia Water Department says the water has been turned off

A 12-inch water main broke at 3:45 a.m Sunday at Frankford Avenue and East Pike Street in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Water Department.

Crews arrived at the scene and the water was turned off about two hours later.

The Fire Department went door-to-door in the neighborhood asking them to move their cars and check their basements for water. Crews are still on the scene working to fix the problem.

This is the fourth water main break to happen in Philadelphia in the past two weeks.

On July 23, a 48-inch water main broke, causing a giant sinkhole at 21st and Bainbridge in South Philadelphia. On July 29, a 24-inch main broke at Willits and Ashton Roads in Northeast Philadelphia.

And on August 1, a 48-inch water main broke at Front and Tioga Streets in North Philadelphia.
