Trial Starts for “Gothic Kitten” Piercer

Prosecutors say dog groomer inflicted pain on kittens to make money

A dog groomer that was piercing cats and marketing them as “gothic kittens” over the Internet faces a trial on animal cruelty charges Tuesday.

Holly Crawford, 35, is scheduled for trial Tuesday, as prosecutors say she inflicted pain on the kittens to make money.

Crawford's home outside Wilkes-Barre, Pa., was raided in December 2008 after the SPCA of Luzerne County received a tip that she was marketing the animals online for hundreds of dollars.

Crawford and her attorneys say that she did not act maliciously, and she was not trying to hurt the kittens.

Crawford says that she used sterilized needles and made sure the kittens healed properly.
