Embattled Philadelphia School District Superintendent Arlene Ackerman has lost one her top aides for a job in the New York City public school district, reports the Daily News.
This is the second top assistant to leave Ackerman’s side for New York in just a few months.
Tomas Hanna, who was the school district’s lead negotiator with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers 2009 contract talks, is leaving Philadelphia to become chief of innovation for New York City public schools, reports the Daily News.
A district source told the Daily News that PFT members were shocked that Hanna would not be helping the district with the employee layoffs and $629 million budget gap.
"Tomas' dedication to the young people in this district has been invaluable to our efforts to decrease violent incidents and make our schools more personal for our students and their families," Ackerman said in a statement.
