Thieves Target Cars in Berks Co. Parking Lots

Police warn residents to remove valuables from cars.

Smashed windows, stolen electronic equipment and other personal property have police and residents on alert in several Berks County communities.

Police say someone is breaking into cars parked at recreation areas and athletic fields and taking whateverโ€™s left inside.

The latest break-in happened Monday night at the athletic fields in Wyomissing.

Four cars were broken into while parents and students attended a soccer match.

Police say similar crimes are happening all over Berks County.

โ€œPeople are focused on kids playing a game, they are not focused on their cars, thinking like, I hope no oneโ€™s breaking into my car, theyโ€™re watching their kid play,โ€ said Liisa McConnell of Sinking Spring.

Police believe the same group of people is responsible for all the thefts, including break-ins at the soccer fields in Bern Township and at Nolde Forest in Cumru Township.
