The Story Behind β€˜Mysterious' Billboard

An NBC10 viewer sent us this picture and asked us to find out the story behind it

An NBC10 viewer emailed in this picture and asked us to find out the story behind this unique billboard she spotted on Moreland Road in Willow Grove.

The billboard has an unidentified woman's face with no words on it.

So here's the story, it's called The Billboard Project.

The photographs appear on billboards that aren't being used for commercial advertising. The pictures were all taken by Zoe Strauss, a local photographer, as part of an exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art that's titled, "Zoe Strauss: Ten Years."

According to the Museum of Art's website, the project is based on the themes of the Odyssey-- journey and homecoming.

Strauss journeyed around the world taking these photographs, which can be spotted on 54 billboards throughout the Philadelphia area.

None of the pictures have text or logos. If you would like to do a driving tour to visit the billboards in the city, click here for a map.

As for the woman pictured above, she is a local resident who lives in South Philadelphia.

The "Zoe Strauss: Ten Years" exhibition will be at the Philadelphia Museum of Art until April 22.
