Same Store Held Up 3 Times in 3 Months

Gunman holds family members hostage as he demands cash

A Northeast Philadelphia family is fed up after being held hostage inside their dollar store for the third time in months.

In broad daylight, a man marched into the Grace Dollar Store along the 6900 block of Buselton Avenue last Saturday, put a gun to the owner's neck and forced her to the floor, police said.

The man then ordered the employee behind the counter to empty the register before taking the cash and fleeing, police say.

Luckily no one was hurt, but a similar scene has played out twice before in the family-owned store.

Sharon Lin says her father was the victim back on July 10 when a gunman -- believed to be the same man -- put a gun to his neck and demanded cash.

"My father was sitting in the chair. He was holding the gun to my father and then said give me the money," said Sharon Lin as she described the robbery.

On surveillance video, Lin's father could be seen fighting off the gunman as he tried to hold the pistol to the elderly man's neck.

The first robbery happened back on May 21 and in each case the suspect made off with $200 in cash.

"We’re still worrying are they going to come again. We can’t do anything about it," Lin said.

Anyone who may recognize the man is asked to call Philadelphia Police at 215.686.3153.
